• Details:  Authentic vintage soup crocks from one of the many early California USA Potteries, crafted in an off-white, linear pattern ceramic, with lid and dual "ear" handles.  All the lids have a small "cut-out notch" for a spoon.  This set of four bowls exemplifies mid-century dinnerware design, perfect for French onion soup, bisques, thick stews, and consommés, or everyday dining. Each piece bears a mark, reflecting quality craftsmanship from an era when functional tableware was built to last. Ideal for collectors seeking genuine vintage California pottery or anyone appreciating timeless ceramic design with practical appeal.  These can also be used for individual pot pies and casseroles.  Excellent for USA pottery collectors.  Collectors, please note the markings and style: "Calif USA 857", plus these have a linear patterned knob on lid and cut-out notch" for a spoon.   We also carry similar, but not identical bowls, (also #857), which have a rounded knob on lid, no cut-out for spoon, and shorter handles.

California USA Pottery is simply a mark, there was never a California USA Pottery Company that produced these wares.  Some marks you may find from California potters are: Cal., Calif., California, some include USA, or the mold number, like this one.  Most of these items were utilitarian, created for everyday use, the maker was not important.  Since it's almost impossible to know who made these wonderful pieces of craftsmanship and nostalgia, collectors tend to look for design, purpose, pieces that are aesthetically pleasing, rather than a specific maker.
